Kicking off 2012 with a belter of a Progressive House remix from Kastis Torrau and Arnas D.
Kicking off 2012 with a belter of a Progressive House remix from Kastis Torrau and Arnas D.
Definite shades of early Underworld in this fantastic, rolling Progressive remix by Eelke Kleijn.
Another slow-burner from the archive; an odd yet compulsive mix of staccato percussion, bayou blues vocals, and buzzing bass lines.
You can see why the mighty James Zabiela rightly caned this track the year it came out—most notably to round out his exquisite four-part 4.4 series mixes (the second part of which we still can't get hold of!).
Continuing our most-sought-after theme from earlier in the week, here's another track that's burnt into my mental jukebox.
Combining some of the nastiest narrative vocals with the deepest, darkest, and aggressively persistent baselines in Progressive, Luke Chable's mould of PQM's already-instant classic captures every last detail I love about Progressive.
Testament to all of this is that it still sounds fucking amazing a massive nine years after its original release.
Make sure you play this loud.
Another huge summer sound, this time from Underworld.
Michael Woods brings a deep, Progressive feel, without losing the highs and lows of the Romfordian's original "hands in the air" dancer.
Released at the end of May this year, Benoit & Sergio's shimmering melodica Let Me Count the Ways is already proving to be one of the hottest tracks this year.
Capturing that hazy, sticky late-night summer feel perfectly, it slides purposefully through House cascades into more brooding and detailed Progressive territory.
Darin Epsilon's on-going Perspectives series has been a favourite for years now. Split into two parts, each episode features a showcase mix by a guest Dj, along with a second mix by Darin himself.
Although Darin's mixes typical focus on new and forthcoming releases, he never fails to weave anything less than a deep, musical journey through the more subtle and textured avenues of procedural House music.
Often tapping into the best parts of classic Trance music from back in the day, Darin's keen ear for contemporary Progressive electronic dance music unearths gem after gem that you'll rarely hear anywhere else.
And if the mention of Trance sends you into convulsions – at the thought of the myriad Best Of's farted onto supermarket shelves by trashy mass-market labels seemingly every week (seriously, what the fuck happened to Ministry of Sound..?) – rest assured I'm referring to the classic, uplifting, and melodic Trance that bloomed in the early '00s.
Time for a bit more love for Rob Booth's essential Electronic Explorations. This time it's a beautiful mix by Swarms, who we featured on Eargasms a few weeks back. A seamless collection of uplifting, progressive and deeply textured music, I've had this on repeat since it featured on the EE podcast at the start of this year.
It's unquestionably one of the best session mixes I've heard in 2011 so far, and a stand-out showcase for this kind of music. It's a relatively short mix at 38 minutes, and I urge you to check it out if just for the plunge over the precipitous drop that begins around the 32:30 mark—the setup and execution is physically breath-taking, and quite unlike anything I've heard before.
Real foot-tapper of a remix by Grayarea, bringing even more light into a more recent Underworld classic.
This one demands as much volume as you can give it, and you can download the high-quality version for free, too.
We're very pleased to announce the release of Eargasms, Vol I for your listening pleasure.
It's a distillation of the sort of music we really enjoy the most, and features several tracks posted previously on the blog.
We hope you enjoy it.
